It was a wonderful night at The Lakeside Club raising funds for Cancer Research UK with Men United Brass Band, featuring Jim Hayes, Cornet Soloist. There were plenty of our players in the ranks - John Gill, John White, Paul Brickle, Michael Franey, Chris Turnbull, Dave Clough, Neil Parkin, David Conway, Michael Gray - but a huge thank you must go to Joanne Behan who helped to organise this very special event 🎺

⭐ On Friday we opened up our bandroom to the Men United Brass Band for a rehearsal in readiness for their charity concert next Friday 17 February 2023. Conducted by Stephen Malcolm & featuring Jim Hayes, Cornet Soloist, all monies raised from the raffle & donations at the door will go to Cancer Research UK. This is an important event with players from various Bands 'uniting in the fight against cancer'. The Concert starts at 8 pm at The Lakeside Club, Sunderland SR3 3BD so please come along & show your support for this very worthwhile cause ⭐

Just 4 weeks to go to the North of England Regional Championships at the Gala Theatre, Durham. We will be competing in the Championship Section which will take place on the afternoon of Sunday 12 March 2023, performing 'Red Priest' by Philip Wilby under the guidance of Duncan Beckley. Further information to follow re timings & adjudicators for our Section 🎺

A date for your diary & a great night guaranteed at THE LAKESIDE CLUB, North Moor Lane, Sunderland SR3 3BD on FRIDAY, 17/2/23. Starting at 8 PM, this is a fundraising event for Cancer Research UK. Men United are made up of players from across the brass band movement & features Cornet Soloist, Jim Hayes. There are no tickets for this Event, but ask that a donation is made at the door for this very worthwhile cause ⭐

Our Sectionals & Rehearsals continue this weekend in the build up to our Regional Contest in March. Some Areas compete as early as next month with all the qualifying Events for the National Finals in London & Cheltenham taking place over a 4 week period:

🎺 The Midlands kick things off over the weekend of 25-26 February (Section 4 on Sat 4 March) and on Sunday 26 February all 5 Sections of the North West Area will compete in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool
🎺 On 4-5 March the Yorkshire Area will hold their Regional Championships within Huddersfield Town Hall
🎺 There are multiple Events on 11-12 March, including our own North of England Contest at The Gala Theatre, Durham. The West of England and Scottish Championships are also taking place at Torquay & Perth respectively
🎺 Last but not least is the Welsh Regional Championships and the London & Southern Counties over the weekend of 18-19 March

Tomorrow sees the start of Sectional rehearsals with Duncan Beckley. It will be the Cornets first before our usual Sunday Rehearsal, with other Sectionals organised for Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Cornets & Trombones will eventually be standing during the Performance of Philip Wilby's 'Red Priest' & we've had a change of seating positions in the Bandroom to accommodate what is required in the Test Piece 🎺🎺

Fantastic to have Duncan Beckley put us through our paces both yesterday & today in the Bandroom. Lots of hard work culminating in our first run through of 'Red Priest' - no doubt the first of many between now & the Contest in March 🎺🎶

🎶🎺 It's nearly time - we'll be back in the Bandroom tomorrow for our first rehearsal this year. Top of the agenda is to get to grips with 'Red Priest' by Philip Wilby which has been selected as the 2023 Regional Test Piece for the Championship Section. It's an interesting piece with individual parts, standing cornets & trombones and groups of featured soloists. Looking forward to working on a new piece & welcoming Duncan Beckley back to the Bandroom this weekend. Our Regional Contest will be held at The Gala Theatre, Durham in March 🎺🎶

We wish all our supporters a very Happy New Year and hope you all have a Healthy and Prosperous 2023

Can we take this opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us over the last twelve months. Highlights include being promoted at the Spring Festival & our involvement in Brassed Off at The Gala Theatre, Durham, but it's the start of a New Year & let's hope that 2023 will be happy & healthy for everyone. We've certainly enjoyed our festive break, but the hard work & focus re-starts again & we'll be back in the Bandroom on Wednesday

Hopefully, the Bands fortunes will improve this year and culminate in a successful year of 'Banding'
