1. TOCCATA

Safe opening & rhythmic playing to open.  I could take more ff at C-2.

D+1 just a little slack in dotted minims.

Good detail noted & contrasts too.  A little more excitement needed I feel.

2. INTERLUDE

Safe start again.

Trombone sounds confident.  I feel could be a little smoother in opening bar but as we proceed it is much better.

But some intonation problems in Band - Well done in echo. Trombone >pp H+9

Well done Flugel & Solo Cornet before J.

J - Good ppp

(Poco Piu Mosso - nothing happened) but I note Stringendo, but from K it lacks some passion/emotion

L - Effective & fine Trombone solo - Well done.

3. FINALE

Good tempo, most of the detail heard as it should be.  All entries are secure.

S - Effective and all goes well & under control until Y to Z becomes a little scrambled & untidy.

Adjudicator:David Childs

1. TOCCATA

Impressive opening with sense of malice.

D - Not 100% in muted lines, but recovers well with effective leggerio at E.

Strong Basses play with drive and purpose at F.

Good dynamic contrast to close, but not without inaccuracies in intonation.

2. INTERLUDE

Well shaped accompaniment lines with a cool solo Trombone - well done.

At times the balance is a little dull, but the attempt at ppp is appreciated.

Generally well shaped throughout with moments of real beauty.

3. FINALE

A well chosen tempo allowing for good detail and sense of style.

Strong secure playing from all departments, particularly Euphoniums and Xylophone

The 'Lontano' passages were possibly a little strong but this did not detract.

Tour de Force ending.

Thank you Band & Conductor.  An enjoyable, well directed performance.
