Joanne joined the Band in 2012 having formerly played for Lingdale Silver, North Skelton Band, British Steel (Teesside) Band, Yorkshire Imps, and most recently, Reg Vardy Band.

Joanne brings a great deal of experience and high quality playing to the band and is a regular featured soloist with the band.

She is the proud Mum of 2 lovely children, William and Martha, who often attend Band events.

Joanne is Marketing & Publicity Manager at Geneva Instruments and is also a skilled Graphic Designer.

Solo Horn                                                                                                                                           Michael Franey

Michael joined the Band following his return to the North East in the summer of 2009 having completed his BMus Music Degree in Wales, where he played with the famous Cory Band

He formerly played for Spennymoor Town band prior to leaving for University,.

Michael, who is the youngest son of our Percussionist, Kevin, is one of the new stars in banding and has an excellent future assured.

A regular soloist with the band, he has recently commenced conducting and now regularly conducts the band at each rehearsal and at regular events.

We look forward to a long and successful future for both Michael and the Band.

First Horn                                                                                                                                                    Billy Hunt

Billy joined the band in July 2018 following his move to the area to fulfil his new employment role as an Electrical Engineer.

Billy began his brass-banding career in (about) 2006 when he was (about) 10 years old. His first instrument was the cornet, which he played in both the Melton Band and award-winning Youth Brass 2000. Billy continued to build connections in the Midlands area when he transferred onto the tenor horn, enjoying playing spells with Enderby Band, Thoresby Colliery Band and, most prevalently at Stamford Brass, winning the Butlins Mineworkers competition in 2015.

Around this time, before moving to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Manchester, Billy was invited to be a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, where he learnt invaluable skills to enhance his playing. Upon moving to Manchester, he joined the Blackburn and Darwen Band, progressing onto solo horn and enjoying multiple high profile contests and a trip to Switzerland.

More recently, before his move up north to Fishburn Band, Billy was a member of the Territorial Army, where he picked up the cornet again for a brief spell. He also began teaching and conducting a band of complete beginners (as young as four years old) at Stockport Schools Brass Bands. He is excited for the new experiences and challenges he will face as part of the Fishburn Band.

Second Horn                                                                                                                                              John Youll

John (aka Cool Youll) is one of the longest serving members of Fishburn Band, having joined in 1975.  He began playing at the age of 12 at Wheatley Hill School being taught by the legendary Gordon Kitto, and his first senior Band was Thornley Colliery in 1972.  Originally playing Cornet in his formative years with the Band, John moved back onto Cornet late 2005 having spent a few years on Tenor Horn, subsequently deciding his best position is actually back in the Horn section.

John names his playing influences as Jim Shepherd and Alan Morrison.

A dedicated family man with 2 sons David and Barry and now a Grandfather with baby sitting duties, he is also a Sunderland supporter in addition to his excellent attendance at rehearsals - so his time management skills are exceptional.  Johns best banding memory is playing Checkmate at the Mineworkers contest in Blackpool Winter Gardens with Roger Payne and his favourite brass band piece of music is Festival Overture.  So as his favourite artistes are metal kings 'Led Zeplin' and 'Deep Purple' John shows a diverse musical range.

John is the resident 'cultural attache' of Fishburn Band with many colourful, descriptive points of view being offered during rehearsals!! It is John's stated ambition to 'hit a top note' while playing his part in Fishburn Band's attempts to become one of the top class Bands over the next decade.
